Recently renovated, this historic 1885 home hosts three bedrooms with large adjoining bathrooms. It’s owners, Robert and Margaret Nordberg are both of Scandinavian heritage and Litengärd is the home to many family heirlooms.
Named for the original 1714 homestead of Margaret’s maternal grandmother in Orkdal, Norway, Litengärd boasts of floor to ceiling windows, original woodwork, crystal chandeliers throughout, lovely wrap around porches, original historic barn, and beautiful mature gardens.
Enjoy the quiet expansive backyard at 44 East Main. Relax with a book in one of the Adirondack chairs under an almost century old Maple tree, wander around the mature gardens surrounding the home, or challenge your partner to a game of croquet.

Robert and Margaret Nordberg moved to Canton in 1987 with their four children. They had looked at various houses to create a Bed and Breakfast for several years and when 44 East Main Street became available this year, they decided to purchase it and renovate it after their Scandinavian heritage. Robert’s parents are Swedish and Margaret’s heritage is Norwegian.
In 1995 the Nordberg family went to Norway for Margaret’s family reunion. Over 70 people from Norway and 30 family members from the USA attended. One prominent family historian researched the family origins back to 1714 in Orkdal, Norway and found the original farm house, which is still in operation.
